The Song Beneath Everything

June 29, 2025|Poetry
It began as a shimmer,
not loud,
but vast,
a sound that reached in
and touched something unnamed inside me.
My breath slowed.
My body softened.
There was a stillness rising
through the noise,
a holy echo threading itself
through the hum of ordinary life.
I felt myself opening,
not outward,
but inward.
The song didn’t ask for silence.
It met me inside the noise.
Even with the chaos,
children calling,
life happening,
the wild backdrop of motherhood,
I felt it.
I let the music brush
against my bones
like a memory I didn’t know I’d forgotten.
It was beauty.
It was sorrow.
It was the kind of presence
that melts the edges of everything
until only the real remains.
In that moment,
I was not trying to escape.
I was remembering how to belong.
To the sound.
To the stillness.
To myself.
